I had the pleasure to serve as President of the jury of the prestigious “Jeunesses Musicales” International Violin Competition in Bucharest.
I was very impressed with the high number of participants from many countries as well as with the exceptionally high level of the contestants. During the competition I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and I was happy to see contestants from several countries returning to the Jeunesses Musicales from previous editions of this competition.

The last three times that we played at the EUROPAfest we enjoyed ourselves very much. The people who organized everything were very kind to us; the hotel accommodation was good and the food in the restaurant also. We love to be in Bucharest every time, it's an interesting city, with beautiful old buildings, interesting architecture and it is an adventurous city. The atmosphere at the Festival isn't competitive, but the musicians are respectful to each other. The atmosphere is one of interest in each others style and instrument, it's very international, young people from over the globe meet each other and make music, but also listen to each others music. They talk with each other about the situation for musicians in their countries, and they meet after the concerts in the clubs, hotels and restaurants. One of the fine things about this festival is, that there are different kinds of music; all kinds of classical, pop, jazz and alternative music. I don't know any other musical festival in Europe where all this kinds of musical groups play and meet. The concert hall where we play is beautiful as well. Every year we are looking forward playing at the EUROPAfest.

I would like to express my sincere admiration for the Director and his team on making Jeunesses Musicales Romania such an amazing success. Taking into account the financial situation of Romania, I would like to congratulate Mr. Gageos for his fantastic work on fundraising so beautifully and organizing such a festival and competition in Bucharest. The only true manifestation of appreciation comes from 210 competitors from 49 countries, who gave their support, time and talent to this wonderful festival. Just a word about the Gala Concert: it was an absolute success, very professional and had an international level.

After 3 participations as jury member in the International Competition Jeunesses Musicales Bucharest, but also as professor of students participating in the competition, during its history, I can say that this competition found itself, from year to year, on an ascending line. This was possible due to the increasing professional level of the participating musicians, but also to the image created worldwide, reflected through the high number of participating countries.
I would also like to underline that the event finds itself in the sphere of trusting and well-known contests from all over the world, being developed in the best concert halls in Bucharest and having good organizing conditions. This statute, gained through the seriousness, hard work and commitment of the organizers, it’s also proved by the fact that the musicians from Romania and abroad participate for the 2nd or 3rd time.

I accidentally met Roseline’s mother, participant of the violin competition from Indonesia. She said that Roseline won the fourth rank. Thanks so much for your kind attention and help that they were able to manage to go to Romania and attend the competition.

I am so impressed and grateful for all you did for the two Danish participants. It was a much bigger event that I thought and it must have taken a lot of work and planning.
I felt it as a great honor that the Danish musicians opened the Gala evening at Athenaeum and I thank you very much.

Without a doubt my most valuable memory is that of building a team. It’s not the t-shirts that made us a team – it was the fact that in 10 days we had done everything together, beginning with the paper work, the distribution of materials, the quick lunches, the evening walks to the bus station. At EUROPAfest we had made a team with members from 5 different high schools in Bucharest. What was initially believed to be a competitive experience, turned into a collaborative one – an experience we would never forget.
